Kaye Marketing Communications combines its copy-writing, editing and marketing talents to produce PR that supports our clients’ objectives.
A businesses can gain positive exposure from well-written public relation stories. Along with a consistent advertising program, PR can give your business a boost of extra visibility that can attract new customers.
Many clients do not know what sort of activities constitutes PR. There is no set list and the types of PR are limited only by the creativity of the business owner. Some ideas for newsworthy PR stories include:
- New and noteworthy hires.
- Significant business anniversaries.
- New product announcements.
- A professional award, honor, or accommodation.
- Participation in a charitable event or local town activity.
- Donating one’s products or services to a charitable cause.
- Preparation of an educational article relating to a newspaper’s “special feature” (demonstrating one’s expertise in their field through a published article is very powerful advertising).
The PR stories that often get published are those that involve someone helping the local community in a substantive way. The philosophy behind these articles is that ‘no good deed should go unnoticed’. You deserve to get credit for something you did that your competitors did not. People reward and show their appreciation to those who have performed such good deeds (and you will feel better too!). Well-placed PR can be one of the most invaluable, least expensive ways of building your business.
What makes a story “newsworthy?”
It all depends. Local newspapers love local stories. It is the bread-and-butter of their publication, but what makes a great story for a local newspaper may not be what a regional journal is looking for. Knowing all of the local media is important, and developing relationships with editors, and yes, your sales representative, is equally so. I do not want to say that advertising in a paper will increase the chances of having your PR article published, but it certainly can not hurt.
Can you increase the likelihood of having a PR article published?
Resoundingly, yes! If your PR story is well-written and includes sharp photography that is already in the right format, magazines and newspapers may very-well print the story as is. Editors are busy people and you just saved the editor a lot time by giving him an interesting, ready-to-go article. Also, when a newspaper prints exactly what you want to say and you are simultaneously able to show your business in its best light, it is a definite marketing home-run.
Kaye Marketing services include writing, editing and submitting newsworthy PR stories to all local media and on-line news sources.
